A charming little handmade enamel vase with the well-known and well-loved theme of souring Asian Red-Crowned Cranes in tones of nature, earthy brown and sky blue.

Throughout Asia, the crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. In Japanese, Chinese, and Korean tradition, the crane is a mystical / holy creature a symbol of good fortune and longevity, because cranes are fabled to have a thousand year life span.

The Japanese refer to the crane as “the bird of happiness;” the Chinese as “heavenly crane” believing they were symbols of wisdom.

History of Cloisonné

Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. In recent centuries, vitreous enamel has been used, and inlays of cut gemstones, glass and other materials were also used during older periods. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné. Chinese Cloisonné is an art technique that is mainly used to decorate metal objects or ceramics. It is thought that the technique originated in the West. Then Chinese craftsmen learned to create beautiful bronzes and porcelains in the Ming and Qing eras, and they are still made and highly valued today.
